The social networking sites have been around since the mid-90s, but in recent years, social networks have exploded across the Internet. Web 2.0 has been the initiative modern social networking websites more popular and easier to use than the first wave of websites launched in the 90s.
Last year, Facebook passed MySpace has grown to become the most popular social network. Flixster also gained ground, overtaking classmates, LinkedIn and have increased in popularity as more people focused on their work. And while Twitter is both a social messaging platform as a social network, which has undoubtedly led to an invasion of the major social networks in the last two years.

general purpose, social networks of interest to a specific topic, and in other countries.
Top social networking sites – General Interest
Founded by Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook was designed as a social networking site for Harvard students. Following the release from Harvard University in the ranks and in high school, Facebook became open to the public in 2006. Why Facebook?
- MySpace
MySpace started in 2003, MySpace was the driving force in the dissemination of social networking, and still maintains a large base of users. Highly customizable social networking sites, MySpace continues to reposition itself in the industry.
- Twitter:
What began as a microblogging site has quickly grown to become a social messaging platform and a leading social networks in the world. Twitter is a phenomenon that transcends social networking outlet for news, trends, fashion, and the cat among many other uses.
- Ning:
A social network for social networks, Ning takes the idea of groups in a whole new level. The ability to create your own Ning community makes a great home away from home for organizations and groups seeking to save the social vacuum.

- Flixster:
With a slogan of “stop watching bad movies,” Flixster combines social networking with film reviews.
- Last.fm:
Billing itself as a social music site, Last.fm allows members to create their own radio station that learns what the person likes and suggests new music based on interests. Also, you can listen to radio stations from friends and other members of Last.fm.
- LinkedIn:
“Friends” to social issues based on the network, members invite people to “connections” instead of Linkedin is a contact management system and a social network, and a section of questions and similar to Yahoo Answers.
- Xanga:
A social blogging site that combines social networking features with blogs. Members earn points for participating in the task and can not spend points on various things such as buying mini pictures, written comments from the blog of a friend.

- Badoo:
Based in London, Badoo is one of the best social networking sites in Europe.
- Migente:
A social networking site targeting Latin America.
- Orkut:
Orkut were originally created by Google to compete with MySpace and Facebook, is primarily captured in Brazil.
- StudiVZ:
A German version of Facebook with a large audience among students.
